Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 1 October 2026

Prepared under Indian law · DPDP Act 2023 · IT Act 2000 · SPDI Rules 2011

1. Who We Are

Sankalp Sutram ("we", "us") operates sankalpsutram.com ("Platform"). We determine the purposes and means for which personal data collected through the Platform is processed and, where applicable, act as the Data Fiduciary under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).

This Policy sets out how we collect, use, store, and share personal data, and the obligations we accept under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the IT (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011 (SPDI Rules). Provisions of the DPDP Act and the rules made under it come into force in stages; we follow those that apply to us as they take effect. By using the Platform, you agree to the collection, storage, and use of your data as described here.

At the time of account registration you are asked to accept this Policy and our Terms of Service, and are told what categories of personal data we collect and the purposes for which we process them. Where consent is required under applicable law, we obtain and record your consent for the relevant purposes. You may withdraw consent where permitted by law (see Section 7).

Geographic scope: Sankalp Sutram operates within the Republic of India. Our paid services are offered only to persons eligible to use them in India, and we do not offer or supply them outside India.

2. Data We Collect

A. Data you provide

  • Identity and contact: name, email address, phone number, profile photo.
  • Birth details: date, time, and place of birth — used solely for astrological calculations.
  • Birth details you enter for other people — for example the second chart in Kundli Milan, or a family member's chart saved to My Charts. We hold these under your account and protect them exactly as we protect your own.
  • Blog comments: the name, email address, and comment text you submit. We email you a link to confirm the address, and a comment appears only after we have reviewed it. Approved comments are public under the name you gave; your email address is not published.
  • Billing contact details collected at checkout. Card and bank details are never stored by us; they are handled by our payment processors.

B. Data generated automatically

  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, session duration.
  • Device data: IP address, browser type, operating system.
  • Advertising identifiers: on pages where ads are shown, Google AdSense sets an advertising cookie identifier — see Section 4.4 and Section 8.

We treat your birth date, time, and place as sensitive information, regardless of how such information may be classified under applicable law. It is encrypted in our database, access to it is restricted, and it is used only to compute your chart and related readings. It is never used for advertising and never shared with our advertising partner.

Birth details you enter for someone else

Some features — Kundli Milan, and saving a chart for a family member — ask you for another person's birth details. Please enter them only where that person is content for you to do so, or where you are their parent or lawful guardian. We hold that data under your account, so we cannot contact them ourselves: if they want their details corrected or removed, you can delete the chart from My Charts, or write to us and we will act on it.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To create and manage your account.
  • To generate astrological charts, Dasha timelines, Panchang, and related calculations.
  • To generate AI readings — both Jyotika AI answers and the AI-written Kundli life report. Values computed from your chart, your question, and your recent questions and answers are sent to our AI provider. Section 4.2 sets out exactly what is sent.
  • To process payments and send booking confirmations.
  • To send transactional emails (password resets, receipts).
  • To send promotional messages — only where you have expressly opted in at registration or via account settings. You may withdraw consent at any time via the unsubscribe link in any marketing email or through account settings.
  • For platform security, fraud prevention, and legal compliance.

We do not sell your personal data. On pages where the Platform displays advertising (see Section 4.4 and Section 8 for details), our advertising partner may process limited technical data — such as your IP address and an advertising cookie identifier — to select and measure the ads shown to you. We do not share your birth data, chat messages, or any other Platform-specific personal data with our advertising partner.

4. Data Sharing

4.1 Payment Processors

Razorpay handles payment processing. Razorpay receives your billing details only and does not receive your birth data.

4.2 AI Provider

We use OpenAI's API for both AI features. For a Jyotika AI question we send your question, the values computed from your chart (planetary positions, houses and their lords, yogas, Dasha period dates, and the Panchang for your birth location), the gender you supplied, and up to your four most recent questions and answers in that conversation, with longer ones shortened to extracts. For an AI-written Kundli life report we send the computed chart — planets, houses, yogas, the calculated doshas, and the running Dasha — together with the life area and language you chose. In neither case is your date, time, or place of birth itself sent, and neither is your name, email, or phone number. These computed values are, however, derived from your birth details, so they are not anonymous. OpenAI states that data submitted through its API is not used to train its models.

4.3 Legal Disclosures

We may disclose data to law enforcement or courts when required by a valid legal order. We will notify you where legally permissible.

4.4 Advertising

On specific pages selected by us, the Platform displays advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance. We do not control, and are not responsible for, the content of third-party advertisements. See Section 8 (Cookies) for how to control or opt out of personalised advertising.

5. Data Retention

  • Account and profile data (name, email, purchase history): for the life of your account, plus a period after deletion so that we can deal with any legal claim or dispute arising from your use of the Platform. Birth data associated with an account is deleted or anonymised when the account is deleted, subject to information that we are permitted or required to retain under applicable law or for legitimate legal, accounting, security, or dispute-resolution purposes.
  • Astrological charts: for the life of your account.
  • AI Q&A conversations: 3 years from the session date.
  • Payment, order, and invoice records: retained for as long as reasonably necessary for tax, accounting, legal, dispute-resolution and compliance purposes, after which the identifying details on them are removed.
  • Server logs: 90 days.
  • Blog comments: kept for as long as the post they appear on is published. A comment that is never confirmed by email, or that we do not approve, is not published and is removed. You may ask us to delete a published comment at any time.
  • Certain registration or transaction information may be retained for a limited period after account deletion — separately from your account and inaccessible through the Platform — where reasonably necessary for legal compliance, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or responding to lawful requests from authorities.

Once retention periods expire, data is securely deleted or anonymised. You may request earlier deletion (see Section 7).

6. Security

  • Data in transit is encrypted using TLS 1.2/1.3.
  • Personal data is protected using appropriate technical and organisational security measures. Sensitive fields in our database — including birth details, email, and phone number — are encrypted at rest.
  • Access is restricted to authorised personnel on a need-to-know basis.
  • We perform periodic security reviews.

No system is completely breach-proof. If an incident is likely to affect your data, we will notify you and the relevant authority within the timeframe required by law.

7. Your Rights

Under the DPDP Act and applicable law, you may:

  • Request a summary of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
  • Request erasure of data that is no longer necessary for the purpose it was collected. Note: testimonials, reviews, and blog comments you have published remain visible under the name you submitted them under, even after account deletion — this is content you chose to publish, not account data. Ask us and we will take a published comment down.
  • Ask us about birth details someone else has entered for you. Where a chart on this Platform describes you rather than the account holder, write to us and we will locate it and correct or delete it, after taking reasonable steps to establish that it is yours.
  • Withdraw consent for data processing — note that certain features require birth data and cannot function without it.
  • Request a portable copy of data you have provided to us.

To exercise any right, email support@sankalpsutram.com from your registered address. We will review and respond to requests within a reasonable period and in accordance with applicable law. We may verify your identity before processing a request.

8. Cookies, Device Storage & Advertising

8.1 Essential browser storage and cookies

We use essential browser storage and cookies for core functionality, including your language and theme preferences, session authentication, and silent session renewal. An authentication token stored in sessionStorage is cleared when the browser tab is closed, while an HTTP-only refresh cookie is used for session renewal. These particular items are required for the Platform to work and cannot be turned off while you are signed in.

8.2 Other things stored on your device

Two conveniences are stored in your browser rather than on our servers. When you like a blog post, a random identifier is saved on your device and sent with the like so that the same post is not counted twice — it is not linked to your account and tells us nothing about you beyond that. And on the Rashifal page, the birth date and time you enter are saved on your device so you do not have to type them in again; they stay in your browser. You can remove both at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, and the Platform continues to work without them.

8.3 Advertising cookies

On pages where we display ads through Google AdSense, Google and its advertising partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and to limit how many times you see the same ad. This is standard third-party advertising cookie behaviour, not something we configure ourselves.

8.4 Your choices

You may opt out of personalised advertising from Google by visiting Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com), and from other participating vendors by visiting the Digital Advertising Alliance's consumer choice page (optout.aboutads.info). Opting out does not stop ads from appearing — it means the ads you see will no longer be based on your browsing history.

We do not use cookies to track you across unrelated third-party websites for our own purposes, and we do not use cookies for cross-site tracking beyond what Google AdSense itself requires to serve and measure ads as described above.

9. Grievance Officer

You can contact our Grievance Officer about this Policy, your personal data, or any complaint about the Platform:

We aim to acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and ordinarily resolve them within 15 days, depending on the nature and complexity of the complaint.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy. For material changes, we will notify you by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

11. Minors

The Platform is intended solely for persons who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect or process personal data from any person under the age of 18. If you are under 18, you may not register or use the Platform.

If we discover that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a person under 18, we will delete that data without undue delay. If you believe a minor's data has been collected, please contact us at support@sankalpsutram.com.

12. Governing Law

This Policy is governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the Republic of India, including the DPDP Act 2023, the IT Act 2000, and the Consumer Protection Act 2019.

Sankalp Sutram is operated from Bangalore, Karnataka, and serves users within the territory of India. This Policy does not restrict where you may raise a complaint or seek redressal.

Nothing in this Policy limits any rights or remedies available to you under applicable law.
